Today I want to talk to you about expanding your variety of fruit intake. Fruits and vegetables are so so SO good for you, which EVERYONE knows! But one of the thing people struggle with is they get bored. But what they don’t realise is how many different fruits there are out there for you! I like majority of the foods I eat each day to be fruits and vegetables and I can tell you that once you learn to buy and eat a larger variety it’s so much better!
By eating a larger variety you are having many different textures and flavours and you can change it up often. It also means you are getting different vitamins and minerals that are vital for your body, rather than the same ones all the time! I mean I have my staples, such as Banana (this is one of my all time favourites and I never get sick of it, plus it makes smoothies creamy, tastes great alone and you can make nicecream out of it).
To have a large fruit intake I like to have a few different fruits for breakfast each morning. If I feel like not all fruit i will add some greek natural yoghurt or maybe a piece of rye toast but basically I have approximately a 300 calorie breakfast consisting mostly of fruit!
When buying fruit I suggest only buying what you’re going to eat in the next 4/5 days, I buy quite a bit because I eat a lot! It is best to be brought locally whether that be through a fresh food market or local store, which is usually also cheaper and has had less chemicals used on it.
I have a draw in my freezer which I ALWAYS keep stocked full of different frozen berries such as mango, strawberry, pineapple, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries & pitted cherries (Make sure you don’t buy the sweetened ones!). You can either buy them already frozen in packets (which is what I most commonly do) and is a cheaper option but maybe not quite as good for you compared to if you buy and freeze yourself. But personally I buy the already frozen in packet ones, as it saves me a lot of time and a bit of money. These won’t go off anywhere near as quick as fresh fruits!
This way I don’t buy any of these fresh because I already have them frozen and I can buy different fruits fresh and mix it up between what I want to use, if your fruit is getting a little old and you can’t eat it in time, cut it up and freeze it!
To give you some ideas on fruits you may or may not have tried I will list quite a few here: Banana, Strawberry, Raspberry, Blueberry, Blackberry, Grapes, Watermelon, Rockmelon, Honeydew, Cherries, Mango, Lychees, Kiwi Fruit, Passion fruit, Plums, Pears, Apricots, Peaches, Apples, Pomegranate, Sugar Plums, Dragon fruit, Star Fruit, Pineapple, Coconut, Lemon, Orange, Cranberries, Figs, Mandarine, Grapefruit & Rambutan!
As you can see there are SO MANY fruits! AND a lot of those are actually very common, there are SO many more. You can make so many delicious smoothies, fruit salads and recipes with so many different flavours and textures, it’s just making a huge variety become your normal! Try and expand the different types of fruits you eat and see how you go!
Vegetables are the same, there are SO many to choose from!
